A Drenching and a Drubbing!

MY GOODNESS! Could it have rained any harder last night at Futsal? Methinks not!

Anyway, the long and the short of it is that we played as best we could considering what we were up against. Half the team (ie The boys) were pretty rough after a rather big buck's weekend in Victoria and the rain was bucketing down we could hardly see at times and kicking the ball was like kicking a bar of wet soap!

We went down to the leaders of the comp 12-2, I guess it's still within our goal of not losing by more than 10 points in a game (just!).

No one even wanted to go for a beer afterwards! I guess everyone needed a warm shower and some food and the idea of sitting around in wet clothes didn't really appeal to even the hardest of drinkers amongst us.

Onwards and upwards for the Mighty SRF! next game is a new game and we'll knock 'em dead then!

Night of Nights

Oscars night has come and gone and I have had my annual dose of glamour and nauseating Hollywood love-in. What a wonderful institution!

I apologise. I am being very predictable here with my well dressed picks of the night. I really tried to look past the stunning and ethereal Cate Blanchett but alas, could not.

She is just too effortlessly beautiful.

And if Cate was the stand-out, then old chook Helen Mirren was the knock-out:

At sixty one years of age she put scores of overly made-up, squeezed, overflowing, unbalanced and generally strained looking young slim Hollywood types to shame.

What a dame.
Honourable mention to George Clooney who behaved like such a gentleman as usual.

Useless Information

During a rare and quiet moment at work as I was daydreaming, staring out the window and watching North Sydney roll by, I started thinking of the names of the SRF...

I know I know! why?? I can't help you there, but it struck me that the same letters keep coming up ... J and M being the most popular starting initials, with N, B and S coming in a close second....

anyway, thought you might all like to share my mindlessness on this gorgeous sunny day!

as Noodle would say Tah Rah!

V-I-C-T-O-R-Y at last!

The Mighty SRF have finally done it! A win in the Futsal Competition! Unbelievable!

We scored 2 early goals which made everyone jump around with madness over the fact that we were actually leading the points in a game!!! Unfortunately the opposition, The Devils, equalised in the first half and then were we in for it!

We defended like our little lives depended on it. We ran, we blocked, we passed, we jumped, we kicked, we yelled, we screamed and boy did we sweat! Our efforts were rewarded by another 2 goals which the Devils couldn't match. They went down 4-2 to us. US! that really does put a smile on my face!

Anyway, while we were jumping around celebrating our win, John overheard something that didn't sound quite right, and sure enough, when he checked with the ref, one of our goals had been given to the other team! He had recorded a 3-3 draw!! WELL! you should have seen the barrage he copped! It came in from every member of the team, recounting in blow by blow detail how each goal was scored by us and didn't he remember how we had 2 here and 2 there?? he should ask the other team, they knew we'd won! and we swear we're telling the truth! and why would we jump around so madly if we had only drawn? and please give us our victory back!...

In the end we persuaded him and the goal was rightfully put back where it belonged....In good ol' SRF domain!
The Winning Team! with their well deserved beers.

Unfortunately we missed Shari as she missed her plane, but she was there in spirit cheering us on.

Now the leader table doesn't look so bad! we're in 5th place out of 6 teams, AND 2 other teams have conceded more goals that we have! Who'd have thunk it?

Anyway, the Subs better watch out...the SRF are climbing the ladder!

When a really big boat gets in the way

About a week ago I booked my car in for a precision alignment - it doesn't matter if you don't know what I'm talking about - all you need to know is that I get it done in Woolloomoolloo (I have no idea if I spelled that right?).

Now it turns out that today is the day that someone decides to park an enormous boat only a couple of hundred meters from my destination. Now I don't have anything against the boat - I quite happen to like big boats (I am male), I also don't mind that this boat carries 3000 odd people and that they all require coaches to get them around because apparently they're all unable to use their legs to get them any further than the ships bar - after all I'm sure they're spending gazillions of dollars as I type on little stuffed toy Koalas and wearing 'I love Sydney' t-shirts. What I do object to is the 10,000 odd Sydneysiders who thought it would be a really good idea to try to park within 50 meters of the boat because obviously parking is no problem in that area at any time and hey no one else will have thought of it - as someone said (I really can't be arsed giving any context to this quote) "I believe people in some areas of this country have started mating with vegetables."

Then I got back to work and someone had unplugged my PC.
