QLD

I'm really struggling to face up to what I have to get done today - namely finish off my hardship presentation for Canberra next week. I'm SICK TO DEATH OF LOOKING AT THOSE SLIDES!

So as a quick diversion, I am posting about my lovely long weekend with my folks in QLD that I cleverly worked in with a work visit on Tuesday.

Here's my Ma and the mutt at a pretty little wooden church in Beaudesert.

don't mean to be picky Lady, but I feel a little ripped off! I was happily settling in for a little vicarious living through your QLD adventures and all of a sudden it was over! One picture....7 lines of text!! what gives??

Well, I arrived on Saturday morning to a steamy 30 degree day. The trip from the airport left me astounded by the crackling brown city scape as QLD struggles with desperate drought conditions and water restrictions that have turned ordinary, law abiding citezens into frenzied opportunists and crafty theives.

Happily, upon reaching the little house on a hill in West End, Ma supplied me with an icey water, followed by a delicious iced tea.

Saturday afternoon, after a short visit to the bustling West End markets, we put our feet up in the shade and enjoyed some lively conversation and a shared crossword experience. Much photo gazing was done and eventually a restaurant and film were selected for the night's entertainment.

After a refreshing shower and a change of clothes, we headed off to the Portside Dendy complex, where we were dazzled by fireworks as we enjoyed our Lebanese feast. After a bottle of wine and an escalation of giggling, we headed next door for the 9:30pm session of 'priceless', through most of which my Pa slept. Ma and I enjoyed it thoroughly and found many striking similarities between it and 'Breakfast at Tiffani's".

Upon switching my phone back from the 'silent' setting, I discovered I had missed a call from Nicolai. In the comfort and safety of the car, I returned his call and had a pleasant discussion with the slightly drunk SRF favourite who was at the time enjoying the hospitality of two other SRF favourtes, Gretta and Flit. After promising to try my next serve of sticky date pudding with double cream instead of my usual icecream and consented to the new name for 24 Ridge St, I terminated the call in favour of more conversation with my parents.

I slept well in my little room on Saturday night.
