Design, anyone?

Hiyah folks. Now, I know you're all science-y and all, but as the token artsy-fartsy chick I thought I'd take the liberty of making a Public Service Announcement.

Sydney Design 09 starts this Friday, a festival of cool right here in your city. Here are some of the things I'm going to check out, so join me if you like.

Young Blood: Designers Market
This is where all the hot young sparks in the design world have a stall at the Powerhouse Museum and you can buy loads of cool stuff before it's even cool.
When? 14 August 6pm-9pm, 15 August 10am-5pm
Where? Powerhosue Museum, Ultimo

Australian Institute of Architects Talk: Richard Francis Jones
A guided tour round the new Surry Hills Library on Crown Street by its architect. This building looks awesome, and there are drinks after.
When? 11 August 6.15pm
Where? Surry Hills Library, Crown St

Eat Green Design
A specially-designed purpose-built temporary restaurant exploring ideas about sustainable design. With yummy food by the Danks Street Depot you can book for breakfast, dinner, or just pop in for a coffee and an ogle.
When? Daily from 1-12 August
Where? Powerhouse Museum, Ultimo

International Guest Speaker: Paul Cocksedge
One of the most innovative and creative minds working in design today, Paul Cocksedge is a designer/inventor/artist (and is totally hot). Catch him talking about his work.
When? 3 August 6pm
Where? Powerhouse Museum, Ultimo

Matt Huynh, Comic Creator and Illustrator
This guy is totally cool, you would all buy his t-shirts for example.
When? 12 August 12.30
Where? Powerhouse Museum, Ultimo

Utzon: Sydney Architecture Walks
Danish architect Jorn Utzon is the dude: he designed the Opera House, but this talk also encompasses other work and explains his collaborations, influences and history.
When? 8 and 15 August, 10.30am-1pm
Where? Walk begins at Museum of Sydney

Play Late
A night of Design-tastic fun in the Powerhouse.
When? 7 August, 6pm-9pm
Where? Yep, you guessed it, Powerhouse Museum, Ultimo

A Light Touch: The Bruno Benini Photography Collection
Australian fashion photography from the 1950s.
When? 5 August 12.30pm-1.30pm
Where? Powerhouse Museum, Ultimo

Fink: Fostering Design
10 hot young Aussie designers each get 10 minutes to talk about their experiences manufacturing and marketing in Australia.
When? 13 August, 6pm-8pm
Where? Object Gallery, Surry Hills

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 9 out of 10 Robots will kill you: Humanoid Design for the 21st Century
Futuristic robot design using film clips.
When? 10 August 6.30pm
Where? UTS

There are loads of other architecture walks and exhibitions which I'm interested in too, so let me know if anything takes your fancy.

*Public Service Announcement Ends*

Hey this sounds awesome and there's definitely more to the SRF than C++ and lab coats (at least for some of you, right?). I say the library talk sounds interesting, as do the markets and the talk by that hot guy (some designer I think you said) and the fink thing too. And the photography from the 50s too. Going to check my calender...

What a tasty looking smorgasbord you’ve put here Carmel! Makes me feel a little greedy and squirmy.
