Certainly not the SMH either

What an absolute load of drivel.

Notable quotes:

Prince William captured her heart and that of Sydney as he saw for himself the warmth and good humour of the city his mother had spoken so often about...It was as if Australia Day arrived six days early, with the streets lined with thousands of well-wishers in a waving blur of Aussie flags.

...the prince who has stolen the heart of the Harbour City...

...a carnival-like atmosphere, complete with Portaloos and drinks stands.

And before you judge me for my reading choices, it came in an email alert.

Big fat pain in my syntax

One of my second cousins over in WA somehow found me on facebook (I blame my brother and his relatively uncommon first name) and consequently assails me with status updates that show the most blatant contempt for literacy imaginable.

My fingers twitch with the urge to leave a correct English interpretation in the comments section of each one. Maybe even peppered with a little appropriate punctuation. I resist. What I could not resist, however, is gathering a small sample here to sate the pernickety old woman bristling inside me. I quote verbatim:

whoop whop can wait ill i get back da mandurah going to party wit my gurl kiara love ya chick kinky ways lmao jokes

Musical picnics

Just wondering whether anyone was interested in picnic-ing with a soundtrack this Saturday, or any other Saturday in January?

This Saturday is the Toumani Diabaté's Symmetric Orchestra, don't know anything about it other than that it looks cool (and is free, and depending on the weather, a great excuse to eat a bunch of cheese and crackers in the park)

The 23rd comes with an orchestral soundtrack, and is ideally paired with paté and smoked salmon.

The 30th would be accompanied with a soundtrack of Opera. Also great for drinking wine to.

I'm most keen for Toumani Diabaté and the opera, and will probably try to get to both even if you lot aren't keen. Anyone want to join me?

From cricket to civil liberties

I wouldn't have put this article in the Sports section myself, but there are some interesting points.

...the biggest changes may be gauged by how Australians treat the next generations. Australians seem more at ease with being treated like children by government and institutions. They wrap their own children in cotton wool...

The newest Franklin

Everyone loves puppies, right? I hope so, because with all this spare time on my hands I need a project to keep me from turning to workplace homicide. Anywho, even though I somehow managed to document every waking minute (and some sleeping ones too) of his first Christmas at Quidong, I've narrowed it down to 10 photos of little Dutch, my brother's new pup, for your viewing pleasure:

Gnawing at Heath

Basking in Becci's affection.

Acquiring new tastes.

Some cuteness.

With his two biggest idols.

Sleeping. Really really hard.
Yay Dutch!

Star Wars Face Book Updates

cos they were a bit hard to read off my t-shirt and I wanted to share (thanks for the party house of chicken) (source)

NYE (as it happened) 2009

My apologies up front if this post crashes the blog....the photo evidence was so abundant that I had a hard time culling. Many of you, however, will be grateful to hear, that culling WAS done. You might be less grateful to hear that the remaining shots will be locked up in the Flitcroft family vault and possibly be used at a later date brewhahahahahaha!

NYE started out casually enough with a barbie and some healthy competition in the Irwin camp. Crikey!!
We got some attitude from Coreysome posing from the more famous of the Hilton sistersa considerably thinner (and more lively looking) Jadea baking goddess of the Stewart kindand yet more attitude, but this time for a hot looking Pink! The Octomom brought the kiddies along for the rideand a rather odd pop princess pulled out all the stops. The anti-puppy Vick was on handand who could possibly pass the naughties by without a friendly hello from your local terrorist....resplendent in Aussie thongs!EVERYBODY who is ANYBODY is on Facebookand the gorgeous Anna Nicole started the night with her famous ample bossom (if a little harder than expected) proudly on display!Of course things soon started to degenerate.....wigs and accessories were exchanged willy nilly, with some ensembles more socially acceptable than others (yes Alex I am looking in your direction!)Thank goodness midnight struck at this point! Many welcomed the new year with dancing....some chose stylish over the shoulder poses (reminiscent of past festivals)
Some chose less ...um... conventional posesand some chose to bring in the new year with an homage to how their partner brought in the previous yearlet's hope we all keep smiling this year....and may 2010 be the best year yet for the SRF!
