Front Room Adventures

The next renovation challenge: The Front Room

The Original room:

You've may have heard me gripping about it so I thought I'd share some pic's too.
1st drama: Being the gyprock, a padded room, massive floor to ceiling panels covered in foam and cloth.
And behind them stud work and some lovely tiling half way up the room. On the up side now we have a room 15-20cm bigger on each wall.

And below the carpet, the chipboard floor was falling apart, so that came up revealing cement underneath :(. But then round the edge of the cement I see original floor boards. So it turns out rather than fixing the old floor boards they laid two layers of steel reinoforced concrete about 20 cm deep.

And under that (2 days worth of removal :( ) rotten beams.

So more room and alot more work. ( And more trips to bunnings )

Anybody hungry?

Just came across the Taste of Sydney festival, does anyone know it? Is it good? Anyone interested in going?

16 top restaurants, including Becasse, Marque, and Aria, set up their kitchens in Centennial Park from 11th to 14th March, and sell sample sized dishes for $8-12 each. Tix are $27.50 (entry only), or $55 including $30 worth of food and drink.

Old Spice

Sleep Talkin' Man

I had to share today's distraction... another blog called "Sleep Talkin' Man". His partner records what he says in his sleep each night and puts in on a blog. There are some quite ammusing ramblings:

  • "You've got to save the curtains! Save the curtains... They hold so many secrets."
  • "Don't move a muscle. Bushbabies are everywhere... everywhere... Shoot the fucking big-eyed wanky shite fucks! Kick 'em. Stamp them. Poke 'em in their big eyes! Take that for scaring the crap out of me."
  • "I know it's a shame that when I walk out of a room it gets just a little bit darker and gray. It's a burden I carry."
  • "Bring it on, King Kong. I'll kick your monkey ass right back to the jungle."
  • "My pony's for sale. Yes, it fucking works! I wanna get a stripey zebra instead."

And theres ever some audio recording on there too.

Academonomics

Ha! So true!

William A. Niskanen, an economist who worked for the US Department of Defence, observed in the late 1960s that bureaucracies have a tendency to provide more services than are really needed. He suggested this was because a bureaucrat's salary, reputation and power tend to be related to the size of the budget they control. A university administrator's budget often appears to be related to the amount of information they collect.
