NYE '07 @ Milson's Point

Well I was told that it was my job to document and post NYE I thought I'd do it now that I have some free time. The night started well, with a smooth journey for Rachel and I to Milson's Point station and, after some confusion with directions, we arrived at John's ute around 7pm to find Shari and Nick there already.

The view from the ute

They had already made friends with a couple camped out in front of the ute by the time we got there, and shortly after we arrived they moved across the sidewalk for a better viewing spot of the fireworks, not before taking a picture of the group.

After a couple hours of talk, food, drink and many comments directed at us by passersby about the great spot we had, the 9pm fireworks commenced with a bang. The view wasn't the greatest, with the 9pm fireworks coming from the barges in the bay, one set being shrouded by the bridge and the other half blocked out by a nearby house. Around 9:30 I decided the time was right for the glow sticks to come out, with John breaking and spilling his within minutes of it arriving in his hand. More talk, drink and comments followed until the countdown began. Champagne and sparklers at the ready, the fireworks on the bridge errupted into the sky. What a sight! The barges were put into action again, giving a 180 degree view of fireworks from our viewing spot. Then the city skysrapers blew streams of fireworks from their roofs and it was back to the bridge with fireworks in the shape of cubes now being set off. After 10 minutes the fireworks were slowing down for the big bang finale. After the fireworks finished we were joined by Nick's new friend Errol, who was now celebrating his 20th birthday.
