Blayney Pie Scandal!

Pie dispute could be settled in court
Tim Kelly

A complaint about a piece of string in a locally made pie could end up in court. A local man who complained about finding s piece of string in his pie has been banned from the shop he bought it from.

Peter Howland said he returned a pie he bought on Monday to a pie shop on Adelaide Street. He said the pie had a piece of twine about 10 cms long and similar that used to seal large paper bags in it.

On raising the matter with the shop's owner Frank Akehurst, Mr Howland said he was verbally abused and told to leave the shop. Mr Howland said all he wanted was an apology.

Mr Akehurst said on Wednesday that there was nothing wrong with the pie and in fact, it was Mr Howland who had verbally abused him.

Mr Akehurst said he called the police after the dispute while Mr Howland said he reported the matter to the health department at Blayney Shire Council.

Mr Howland said he regularly bought pies at Akehurst's Bakery and was disappointed that he no longer could.

Mr Akehurst told the Blayney Chronicle that this may not be the end of the matter, he may take further action.

Hmm. I'm not sure that there is any better scandal than a pie scandal. Except a string and pie scandal.
