A Day with the Animals

For the October long weekend, my family and i went on a road trip to Dubbo. We have often spoke about going to the Western Plains Zoo, so finally we got our act together and headed west over the mountains for the weekend.

We left early on saturday morning, and drove through Katoomba to Bathurst (for breakfast and a drive around Mt Panorama) then through Orange to Dubbo. We Set up our tents and relaxed for the rest of the day.

On Sunday we went to Western Plains Zoo. The Zoo was so much better than i expected. i recommend that you visit, if you havent been before. The Zoo is very large and the walking track is about 7 km. There are large areas of parklands for picnics and the zoo is very pretty. Anthony (my brother) and I hired bikes to ride around, it was so much fun, i havent riden a bike in ages. So many families were on bikes, and you can also hire electric golf carts or drive around in your car. There are no bars or cages etc in the animal enclosures but rather moats and banks. It made it seem more natural, more like a safari.

There were many highlights, however the giraffes and zebras were my favourites. we were able to get so close to them.

Here are some photo's of my weekend away, Enjoy!
